SIBO

SIBO or small intestine bacterial overgrowth is the overgrowth of bacteria within the small intestine that are not normally found there.

Symptoms of SIBO are diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, bloating, gas and burping. Other issues caused by SIBO are inflammation of the lining of the small intestine and nutrient malabsorption. This can also contribute to a loss of weight.

Using antibiotics to treat an intestinal problem is actually contributing to other gut issues. Antibiotics are non selective in the bacteria they kill and as a result can destroy the beneficial bacteria that help maintain intestinal health.

One thing to do immediately is to stop dairy, all fruit and added sugars and see an alternative health practitioner – Naturopath – as soon as possible.

The only sensible approach is applying a tailored dietary change combined with a specific herbs that enhance the intestinal environment and also destroy harmful bacteria without affecting the beneficial bacteria. In some cases specific probiotics can be helpful.

Most clients presenting with SIBO have found that after following this program other health concerns clear up too. For example, skin conditions improve and joint pain is often reduced or eliminated.
